Marsha P. Johnson was an African-American trans woman who was an activist for LGBTQ+ rights and an outspoken advocate for trans people of colour. Johnson spearheaded the Stonewall uprising in 1969 and, together with Sylvia Rivera, she later founded the Street Transvestite (now Transgender) Action Revolutionaries (STAR). A group dedicated to helping homeless transgender youth in New York City. She was tragically found dead in the Hudson River on 6 July 1992 at the age of 46. The 'P' in her name stands for "Pay it no mind" and was known for the flowers she wore.
This image, photograpghed by myself, is a reference to her death and also a tribute to her as a person and how she fought for the rights we have today in terms of equality.
